Costume Assistant

Founded in 2010 by Artistic Directors Gelsey Kirkland & Michael Chernov, the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet’s mission is to foster a rebirth of dramatic storytelling in ballet through our academy programs that provide specialized training for gifted students from around the world, and through the development of the Gelsey Kirkland Ballet, a classically oriented Professional Studio Company capable of creating and performing new and dramatic works. Job Duties/Responsibilities

Gelsey Kirkland Academy for Classical Ballet (GKA) is seeking an experienced seamstress to join the GKA team as Costume Assistant for the 2015 production of The Nutcracker in DUMBO Brooklyn. The Costume Assistant’s main responsibilities will be assisting the Costume Manager in maintaining/repairing costumes, running all performances, and handling all laundry needs for the entire run. Applicants must be available for every performance from December 9-20. General duties will include: fittings and alterations before and after the show, assisting with preparation of costumes for load-in, general repair, alterations, maintenance and laundering of basic stock and rental packages, and attending rehearsal run thrus of the shows with Costume Manager. Only resumes with solid experience as a professional seamstress will be considered. This job has non-traditional hours and is seasonal.
