Job Responsibilities:working with the Music Director and Guest Conductors and reporting directly to the Director of Production, the primary duties and responsibilities are to: • Organize, distribute, and transport printed scores and parts for all rehearsals and concerts. • Draft Orchestra instruction sheets with show order and cues; track and make changes as necessary as rehearsals progress. • Prepare parts (mark cuts, bowings and any other markings requested by conductor, check parts, tape as requested). • Attend and facilitate all music rehearsals, music auditions, and concerts to assist with set up and strike, especially in regard to orchestra stage set up and music distribution. • Act as liaison regarding music details and requests between musicians, conductors, arrangers, and outside artistic personnel. • Catalog and store paper and digital scores and parts for future use. • Provide general artistic administrative support for the Music Director, Guest Conductors, Director of Production and outside artistic personnel. • Other duties, as assigned.Music Assistant will be responsible for organizing and distributing music for between 30-40 rehearsals and performances.
Job Requirements:• 3 years of experience in a music library or music organization. • Bachelor’s degree required. • Extensive knowledge of classical music, especially orchestral repertoire; knowledge of instrumentation requirements and options, etc. • Fluent in score reading; experience working with orchestra conductors and musicians including marking parts, etc. • Solid working knowledge of orchestration, music theory and music history. • Excellent organizational and writing skills; punctuality and preparedness a must. • Ability to interact well with a diverse continuum of people, to act effectively and enthusiastically as member of a small staff and production team, to set and meet project deadlines, and act with decorum in pressured situations. • Proficiency in the following programs: Finale or Sibelius, Microsoft Office Suite, Audio editing software of choice are a must—experience with video editing software of choice, a plus. • Working knowledge of German, French, Italian and/or Latin, a plus. • Basic piano skills, a plus. • Weekend and some evening hours required during concert season.
Compensation: $17 per hour
Hrs/Wk: Position averages 15-19 hours per week during all or part of the time period from October 24, 2016 to March 15, 2017.
