Superchief is a contemporary art gallery that has been showcasing artwork of all different mediums by up-and-coming to well-established artists for the past seven years. Our shows have included everything from painting and photography, to 3D printed sculptures and fully immersive virtual reality experiences. Founded in Brooklyn by Ed Zipco and William Dunleavy in 2010, Superchief has grown to include locations in Queens and LA. Superchief has been featured in several publications including VICE, The LA Times, Juxtapoz and Paper Magazine. At this time, Superchief is looking for interns to fill a wide variety of positions. Those interested in joining our staff without a desired position in mind are still encouraged to get involved.
Designers: Create files ready to apply to all forms of media, social media, promotion, show bios, binders and events. Retouch images of documented art for bigcartel and pricelists according to workflow. Compile all images, prices and info into cohesive price lists for publications, clients and buyers.
Researchers/Housekeeping: Find old press for the artists we show and organize it (Links and screen grabs to layout as one pdf, format screengrabs suitable for different social media outlets – desktop view for FB, mobile view for Twitter and Instagram) Keep a checklist of artists we’re about that we check in on on a weekly basis so we can keep a consistent blog. Keep up to date with artists we’ve shown/will show and share cool things they’re working on aside from working with us. Reach out to artists we want to fuck with. Stay on top of master sheet for upcoming shows (i.e biographical information/cv’s from artists). Stay up to date on artistic opportunities we’re collaborating with Stay up to date on our Dropbox, Google Drive and Calendar. Make sure there is no missing information or incorrect formatting, be the point of contact if there is (This person/people can reach out for missing info and/or we can quickly forward info in an email if someone is too busy completing other tasks to upload info to Dropbox). Research pros and cons of projects and organizations that are doing shit that we wanna get into.
Promotion/Press: Keep a running log of publications/press (both fam and reach publications) Delegate artists information/packets to appropriate publications/collectives/opportunities Updating gallery contacts and mailing lists Forward upcoming events from us and interesting artists to mailing list Know what’s good in the art scene
Social Media: Update all forms of social media consistently coordinating with designers and researchers to run Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr/Giphy (Ed takes care of insta) Reply to questions/comments on social media platforms Sales: Keep a log of all sales from merch to art sales Update Bigcartel Send price lists to interested parties. Coordinate safe shipping of purchased art
Gallery Maintenance: Keep gallery space, storage facilities, offices etc. tight and organized Help unpack/pack artwork Help install/Deinstall artwork Necessary spackle holes/paint touch ups.
Gallery Hours: Be present during gallery hours to greet visitors Answer phone/ emails about general gallery inquiries or questions Know info on present/past and future shows for questions Assist with private viewings, special events and openings
